Zia PDF Quilt Pattern: A quilt pattern for the New Mexico sun (Zia) using simple strip methods and easy foundation pieced corners.
The Zia Quilt pattern features blocks that show the New Mexico sun (Zia). The rays of the sun are made from simple strip piecing while the corner blocks are made using a simple foundation piecing method.
New to foundation piecing? Not a problem. The clear instructions will have you making perfect foundation pieced corners for every block. When I teach this class, many students were also new to this method, but picked it up quickly. If you follow the steps shown in the diagram every time, you will be successful!
The corner blocks provide a striking secondary pattern in this quilt.
The simple, pieced border finishes the quilt top quickly.
Finished size: 58” x 72” for the quilt as shown (3 blocks wide by 4 blocks high; 12 total blocks)
For a larger quilt option, make 30 blocks (5 blocks wide by 6 blocks high) for a finished quilt that measures 86” x 101”.
